Job Summary:
The Commercial Diver will use scuba gear to work below the water to inspect, install, remove, or repair equipment and structures.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Performs underwater search and rescue, salvage, recovery, or cleanup operations.
- Inspects and maintains diving equipment, such as helmets, masks, air tanks, harnesses, and gauges.
- Ensures appropriate safety measures are taken; monitors dive lengths and depths.
- Uses underwater cameras and other equipment to inspect and record condition of docks, ships, buoy systems, and underwater pipelines and cables.
- Takes photographs and gathers test samples to evaluate condition of vessels or structures; recovers salvageable ships, parts, or cargo.
- Installs footings and pilings for piers or bridges and repairs ships, bridges, or other structures below the waterline.
- Recovers sunken objects using cranes or winches.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Mastery in use of diving equipment such as scuba gear, air tanks, helmets, gauges, diving suits, and masks.
- Proficient in use of use hand tools, power tools, and welding equipment.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to use still and video cameras.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Successful completion of an accredited commercial diver course required.
- Two years of related experience highly preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to dive into waters at all depths, temperatures, and visibility conditions.
- Must be able to remain underwater for prolonged periods of time.
- Must be able to lift 25 pounds at a time.
