Healthcare Workforce in Crisis

Healthcare Workforce in Crisis

The staffing shortage in healthcare is the biggest challenge that the industry is facing and threatens the ability of healthcare facilities to provide optimal patient care. Human resource (HR) leaders play a vital role in solving the longstanding issue, which, like many areas in business, was exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Multiple factors have contributed to this complex issue in more recent years, including high turnover due to employee burnout; low employee engagement; and an increasing demand for healthcare services, especially for an aging population. Given the negative impact that high turnover has on staff well-being, patient care, and overall healthcare costs, now is the time for HR executives to implement effective solutions.

Technological tools, such as scheduling software, can be the panacea that HR leaders in healthcare need to overcome these workforce challenges. A technology-based scheduling strategy will provide staff with greater job satisfaction and a healthier work-life balance. When employees are happy, they are more engaged and less likely to leave their employer. Healthcare facilities have an opportunity to change the trajectory of the industry for the better by adopting these technological advances.
