Purpose/Objective
In addition to the military leave provided to employees under applicable federal law, [Company Name] provides up to 17 days of job-protected unpaid leave per calendar year to employees who are members of the reserve corps of the armed forces of the United States, the National Guard or the naval militia when called to military duty for purposes of military training, drills, encampment, naval cruises, special exercises or the like, including travel time. Additionally, employees in the California State Military Reserve are entitled to a temporary military leave of absence without pay while engaged in military duty for purposes of military training, drills, unit training assemblies or similar inactive duty training not to exceed 15 calendar days annually, including travel time.
Eligibility
Eligible employees are members of the reserve corps of the armed forces of the United States, the National Guard or the naval militia, or members of the California State Military Reserve.
ProceduresEmployees requesting leave under this policy should comply with the following requirements:
Employees should request leave under this policy with as much advanced notice as practicable.
In support of their request for leave under this policy, employees should [complete a company leave request form and] provide [their supervisors/human resources/other job title] a copy of their orders or other appropriate written certification that the employees have been called to federal military duty for purposes of military training, drills, encampment, naval cruises, special exercises or the like (or that state military members have been called for military training, drills, unit training assemblies or similar inactive duty training).
Additionally, employees may choose to use accrued paid leave (such as vacation or paid time off), concurrently with some or all of the leave under this policy. To receive paid leave, eligible employees must comply with the company’s normal procedures for the applicable paid-leave policy (e.g., call-in procedures, advance notice).
