Job Summary:

The Workers Compensation Claims Examiner will assess and approve claims for workers compensation benefits.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• May assign minor claims to entry-level or trainee examiners.
• May assist with performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Reviews workers compensation claim forms.
• Evaluates injury reports to assess compensation and to determine the anticipated cost of each claim.
• Approves medical treatment, hospitalization, and surgery.
• Calculates permanent disability ratings.
• Coordinates payment of medical bills, disability compensation, and death benefits.
• Maintains records, files, and databases of claims; prepares summary reports of collected data.
• Provides client companies and employees with information and training regarding workers compensation benefits.
• Explains proper management of workers compensation claims to client employers.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Extensive knowledge and understanding of applicable workers compensation laws, procedures, and regulations.
• Extensive knowledge of medical and technical terminology used in workers compensation cases.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to deliver presentations to explain rules and policies.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• At least two years related experience with workers compensation claims required.
• Completion of a certificate course in workers compensation administration or similar training required.
• SHRM-CP preferred.

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
• Ability to travel to various worksites to provide training.
