Job Summary:
The Wind Energy Engineer will design and develop wind collection systems and wind farms to produce energy in accordance with site specifications.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- May supervise work activities and assignments of consultants or subcontractors.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Creates and designs wind energy systems and wind farms according to specifications; considers parameters such as energy production, load, noise, aerodynamics, and related factors.
- Provides information and recommendations on optimal system structure and locations; drafts and supplies schematics, layouts, and other relevant documentation.
- Conducts research as required to identify optimal equipment and turbine type for each project.
- Collaborates with other stakeholders and project staff during the design phase; provides engineering support and subject matter expertise.
- Recommends modifications to improve performance and reduce cost of wind turbines and other equipment.
- Conducts necessary mechanical and electronic testing and data analysis to verify efficient and effective function, reliability, and energy output of wind turbines, systems, and components.
- Ensures that prototypes, turbines, and wind farm construction comply with applicable regulations.
- Maintains knowledge of new developments and improvements in wind turbine technology, and changes to applicable environmental or energy regulations.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong data collection and analytical skills.
- Thorough understanding of wind turbines and wind farm engineering, construction, and design.
- Thorough understanding of regulations related to wind farms and wind turbines.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related data collection and reporting software, and computer-aided drafting (CAD) software.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelors degree in Engineering; Masters degree preferred.
- At least three years of related experience required.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
