Radon Abatement Technician




Job Summary:

The Radon Abatement Technician will perform residential radon tests and install radon abatement equipment to monitor and limit radon exposure.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Travels to residential sites and performs residential radon testing according to established methods.
  • Conducts additional testing such as aquatic testing in homes with private water systems.
  • Presents and explains test results to homeowners/clients.
  • Identifies, recommends, and explains available and appropriate radon abatement methods, equipment, and installations.
  • Estimates costs related to recommended installation and operation.
  • Installs equipment.
  • Conducts follow-up testing after installation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal skills.
  • Thorough understanding of radon testing and abatement equipment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software to draft reports and logs of test results.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid state drivers license required.
  • State or local certification if required.
  • Certification by the Indoor Environmental Standard Organization (IESO) or National Radon Safety Board (NRSB) desired but not required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to walk, stoop, bend, or crawl to access basements and crawl spaces to perform testing.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds at a time.
  • Manual dexterity to install radon reduction equipment.
