Job Summary:

The Music Therapist will plan music therapy programs and use music therapy as part of a patients rehabilitation process or therapeutic treatment plan.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• None.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Applies music to assist with a comprehensive rehabilitation and treatment plan in hospitals, rehabilitation centers, nursing homes, or mental health centers.
• Coordinates with patients treatment teams to determine scope of music therapy required in rehabilitation process.
• Assesses each patients physical or mental disorders and disabilities.
• Develops music therapy plans based on patients physical and/or mental assessments.
• Works with children, adults, and/or elderly patients, both individually and in group settings.
• Observes patients reactions and progress through music therapy.
• Prepares reports that document patients progress.
• Prepares reports related to patient groups or individual patients.
• Performs other related duties as required.

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Proficiency with musical instruments to be used in therapy programs.
• Extensive knowledge of music as a therapy tool.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to customize programs based on a patients specific needs and responses.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.

Education and Experience:

• Bachelors degree in Music or Music Therapy required; Masters degree preferred.
• Three years of related experience required.

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time.
