Job Summary:
The Music Therapist will plan music therapy programs and use music therapy as part of a patients rehabilitation process or therapeutic treatment plan.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Applies music to assist with a comprehensive rehabilitation and treatment plan in hospitals, rehabilitation centers, nursing homes, or mental health centers.
- Coordinates with patients treatment teams to determine scope of music therapy required in rehabilitation process.
- Assesses each patients physical or mental disorders and disabilities.
- Develops music therapy plans based on patients physical and/or mental assessments.
- Works with children, adults, and/or elderly patients, both individually and in group settings.
- Observes patients reactions and progress through music therapy.
- Prepares reports that document patients progress.
- Prepares reports related to patient groups or individual patients.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Proficiency with musical instruments to be used in therapy programs.
- Extensive knowledge of music as a therapy tool.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to customize programs based on a patients specific needs and responses.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelors degree in Music or Music Therapy required; Masters degree preferred.
- Three years of related experience required.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time.
