Job Summary:
The Marine Biologist will study marine organisms and ecosystems to understand marine species and the conditions that affect them.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Assesses the environments and habitats of marine organisms.
- Monitors, records, and analyzes the behaviors and/or physiology of marine organisms.
- Measures the effects of outside forces such as human activity on marine habitats.
- Collects, tests, and analyzes ocean samples to identify and preserve unknown species, pollutants, diseases, and other data that may be found in samples.
- Researches various marine species by inventorying populations, testing and monitoring the environment, and recording changes experienced after exposure to pollutants; maps the ranges and movements of the population.
- Reports on the health of habitats after analyzing test results; prepares reports of results for scientific journals and other publications.
- Collaborates with various stakeholders including the public, government agencies, and corporate entities to identify solutions to oceanic environmental problems.
- Maintains current knowledge of developments in marine biology and potential new areas of research; attends conferences and seminars to build on existing knowledge.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:

- Strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to remain tactful and professional when managing groups with various opinions and goals.
- Ability to safely operate a small boat or water craft.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelors degree in Biological of Marine Science, Environmental Science, Coastal Zone Management, or related field required. Masters degree preferred.
- At least two years of related experience in the field required.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
