Job Summary:
The Local Transit Bus Driver will transport people by bus on regularly scheduled bus routes throughout the city.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Follows a planned bus route, making scheduled stops to pick up or drop off passengers.
- Collects fares and answers questions about the bus route.
- Communicates with the dispatcher via two-way radio during the route; provides updates to the dispatcher and reports emergencies, traffic patterns, or accidents.
- Assists passengers on and off the bus when help is needed.
- Visually inspects the bus before beginning the days assigned route.
- Reports any mechanical issues with the bus such as brakes, steering, or other issues.
- Prepares an observation report when shift is finished.
- Delivers fares to the cashier office.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to operate a bus safely.
- Extensive knowledge of motor vehicle laws.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Extensive knowledge of vehicle maintenance and the ability to diagnose mechanical problems.
- Excellent time management skills.
Education and Experience:
- Must be 21 years of age.
- Must have a valid commercial drivers license.
Physical Requirements:
- Must pass a drug screening and physical exam.
- Prolonged periods of operating the bus.
- Must be able to assist passengers when needed.
