Job Summary:
The Legal Services Supervisor will manage and lead a team of legal support staff in providing documentation, research, and other services to assist the legal team.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Assists in hiring and training internal support staff for the legal department.
- Oversees the day-to-day workflow of the department.
- Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.
- Handles discipline and termination of employees as needed and in accordance with company policy.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Prepares and assists with legal documents for attorneys as directed.
- Conducts or assists with legal research for attorneys as directed.
- Manages case files, ensuring that summaries are properly prepared and updated, litigation files are properly and securely maintained, and records and documents needed for litigation are collected and organized.
- Documents and verifies expenses.
- Develops and maintains records for support staff including work records, payroll records, and performance reviews; drafts and distributes reports of records as required.
- Maintains and updates law library or other repository of legal department books, material, and resources.
- Coordinates travel arrangements and reservations for attorneys and support staff.
- Ensures legal department files are maintained and destroyed in compliance with record retention policies and procedures.
- Oversees yearly budget for the department and monitors monthly accounting records; provides related findings to managing attorney.
- Serves as backup for office functions including answering, screening, and directing phone calls; managing mail; and printing or copying documents.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Organized with attention to detail.
- Basic understanding of court and administrative proceedings and documentation.
- Thorough understanding of lawsuit summaries, litigation files, and proper maintenance of all legal records.
- Superior proficiency in administrative tasks.
Education and Experience:
- Associates degree, 60 hours of college work, or paralegal certification required.
- At least six years of progressively responsible experience in a legal department or similar department with at least one year of supervisory or lead responsibility.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
