Job Summary:
The Human Factors Engineer and Ergonomist will design and develop items to be safe and comfortable for human use.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Designs, develops, and improves items, such as tools, electronics, and machines with a focus on comfort, safety, and usability.
- Designs, develops, and improves ergonomic equipment to increase workplace comfort, safety, and productivity.
- Researches methods to maximize health and well-being through better design of daily-use items.
- Inspects and evaluates work environments, equipment, and practices.
- Conducts product studies and usability testing to identify improvements that will make a product more user-friendly.
- Communicates with users to understand and evaluate problems they may encounter with specific equipment or machines.
- Recommends equipment to protect workers from potentially harmful or uncomfortable work methods.
- Trains users on proper use of equipment and tools; conducts specialized safety training and demonstrates the use of safety equipment.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to collaborate with a design team.
- Extensive knowledge of ergonomic design and principles.
- Ability to identify issues that can be resolved to improve safety and comfort.
- Excellent written and communication skills.
- Ability to train individuals on safety procedures and safety equipment.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelors degree in Human Factors Engineering, Ergonomics, Applied Research Psychology, or related field required; Masters degree in one of these fields is highly desirable.
- Three years of related experience preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
