Job Summary:
The Cabinetmaker will create and build custom built-in and freestanding cabinets and furniture.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Builds project accurately and within time and budget specifications.
- Uses saws, power tools, sanders, hand tools, wood glue, screws, dowels, screws, and other tools and fasteners to complete the project.
- Cuts, shapes, and prepares the surfaces of wood and constructs complete project.
- Attaches specified door pulls and hardware and hangs cabinet doors on frames.
- Finishes surfaces according to specifications by sanding, staining, and applying veneer, stain, or polish.
- Repairs or refinishes wood furniture or cabinets for customers.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent verbal communication skills.
- Ability to fit cabinets around existing appliances.
- Excellent listening skills.
- Ability to appropriately measure and skillfully build.
- Very good math and spatial skills.
- Thorough understanding of and ability to operate complex and basic tools.
- Extremely accurate and detail-oriented.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of cabinet-building apprenticeship.
- Work experience preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift and carry loads of wood and tools as needed to complete jobs.
- Prolonged periods standing and building.
- Must be able to bend, squat, reach, stretch, and move in order to take accurate and appropriate measurements.
- Visual acuity necessary to measure and assemble furniture and to read plans.
