Interacting with a Sponsoring Chapter
Probably the biggest benefit of participating in a student chapter is the opportunity to interact and network with HR professionals in your community. All student chapters are encouraged to develop a relationship with a local professional SHRM chapter who will act as a "sponsoring" or "parent" chapter. Most sponsoring chapters will designate a College Relations Director (Student Chapter Liaison) who will then work directly with the student chapter(s). This is your contact person for coordinating events with the professional chapter. If you have lost touch with your sponsoring chapter, or would like to initiate a relationship with a professional chapter, check the SHRM Web site (www.shrm.org/chapters) for a complete list of SHRM professional chapters, or contact the Student Programs Office at SHRM for assistance.
Your chapter may earn points for the Merit Award Program by working with the sponsoring chapter on events and/or programming.
