SHRM Hosts HR Policy Boot Camp to Brief Capitol Hill on Workforce Solutions
On April 21, SHRM hosted its HR Policy Boot Camp at the Rayburn House Office Building in Washington, D.C., offering a focused, high-impact policy briefing for congressional staffers. The event, designed to connect real-world HR challenges with actionable policy solutions, underscored SHRM’s leadership as a trusted advisor on workforce issues. Hosted in collaboration with Reps. Don Davis, D-N.C., and Don Bacon, R-Neb., the boot camp featured presentations from the following SHRM senior executives: Emily M. Dickens, J.D., chief of staff and head of government affairs; Jim Link, SHRM-SCP, chief human resources officer; Alex Alonso, Ph.D., SHRM-SCP, chief data & insights officer; and James Atkinson, vice president, thought leadership.
The session addressed SHRM’s 2025 public policy priorities, focusing on key workforce issues such as AI’s impact on jobs, HR compliance challenges including the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and the growing importance of flexible work arrangements. SHRM’s HR Knowledge Center also provided valuable insights on best practices for managing workforce trends, improving employee engagement, and promoting workplace civility.
Attendees received SHRM’s co-branded HR guide and left with a deeper understanding of how strong HR practices and thoughtful policy can come together to shape a more effective and engaged workforce. The event reinforced that SHRM is the go-to resource for policymakers looking to craft legislation that benefits both workers and employers.
