SHRM, CalSHRM Outline 2025-2026 Legislative Priorities in California
Following the start of the 2025-2026 California legislative session on Dec. 2, SHRM and the California State Council of SHRM (CalSHRM) submitted letters to the California Legislature and Gov. Gavin Newsom on Dec. 11 outlining their priorities:
Workforce Development: We support initiatives that enhance education, skills training, and career development, ensuring a workforce that is ready for the future.
- Workplace Health Care: We advocate access to affordable, high-quality health care solutions that benefit both employers and employees.
- Workplace Flexibility and Leave: We promote adaptable policies, including paid leave and flexible work arrangements, to meet the evolving needs of California’s diverse workforce.
- Workplace Immigration: We encourage thoughtful workplace immigration policies that address talent shortages and stimulate economic growth.
- Workplace Governance: We support modern, balanced regulations that foster innovation, protect workers, and drive business success.
- Workplace Inclusion: We champion inclusive policies that create equitable opportunities and celebrate the diversity of our workforce, valuing the unique backgrounds and perspectives of all employees.
SHRM and CalSHRM are eager to collaborate with California policymakers to foster a skilled and competitive workforce that can thrive in the state’s dynamic global economy. In addition, we are committed to creating inclusive workplaces that harness the potential of California’s workforce, including those workers who are traditionally overlooked, such as veterans, caregivers, older workers, opportunity youth, individuals with disabilities, and people with criminal records. By ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to contribute, SHRM and CalSHRM can build a stronger economy for all Californians.
