ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- Emily M. Dickens, SHRM Chief of Staff and Head of Government Affairs, issued the following statement in response to the extension of WIOA.
"SHRM applauds the House Committee on Education and the Workforce, and the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee for reaching an agreement on the reauthorization of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA). This legislation is critical to ensuring that workers across the country have access to the skills and career development opportunities they need to thrive in today’s rapidly evolving economy.
SHRM has long championed efforts to modernize and strengthen our workforce systems, and the extension of WIOA reflects a bipartisan commitment to building a future-ready workforce. We are especially grateful for the recognition that workforce development is not just a policy priority—it is a necessity for our nation’s economic growth and competitiveness. By continuing to support programs that help opportunity youth, dislocated workers, and underserved communities gain the skills they need to succeed in today's economy, we can meet the evolving needs of workers and employers alike. The commitment to improving WIOA fosters a more robust and inclusive economy.
Thank you to the members of these committees and their staff who worked tirelessly to reach this agreement. SHRM urges Congress to swiftly pass this foundational legislation to modernize and reform the nation’s workforce development system. SHRM looks forward to partnering with policymakers to drive forward innovative solutions that support workers, employers, and communities."
