SHRM’s Debut AI+HI Project Concludes in Silicon Valley with Call to Action for HR Professionals and C-Suite Leaders to Embrace AI Now

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA – Last week, SHRM, the trusted authority on all things work, debuted its AI+HI Project in Silicon Valley with an important message encouraging companies across the globe to embrace AI ahead of the curve. The event, held at the Microsoft Silicon Valley Campus, gathered several hundred of the world’s leading experts and C-suite executives to lead pivotal and enlightening discussions about how to guide our workforce to seamlessly integrate AI into core business strategies.

On Tuesday, SHRM President and CEO Johnny C. Taylor, Jr., SHRM-SCP kicked off the event on the main stage, sharing, “We've got to reframe the narrative, HR, and get people to the point where they want to embrace AI. Because ready or not, here it comes.”

Generative AI has the potential to reshape industries in both the digital and physical workspaces. As companies navigate this disruptive wave of change, one tenet stands out – the true power of AI emerges when combined with HI (human intelligence), defining organizations’ ability to thrive amid industry changes. “The narrative has been so much about how AI is going to eliminate the HI part. That narrative must become more positive, or you can expect people to resist AI and not embrace it,” Taylor added.

The AI+HI Project was also the first opportunity for SHRM members and attendees to hear from Nichol Bradford, SHRM’s recently announced AI+HI Executive-in-Residence. She concluded the conference on Wednesday on the Main Stage.

“With 44% of work tasks in line to be automated or augmented by AI, the stakes are high. If we get it wrong, we risk job disruption, limited growth, and unrealized possibilities,” Bradford said. “But, if we get it right, we can create a future where people can reach their full potential and transform their companies.”

Additional AI+HI Project speakers included: Bethany Bongiorno, Co-founder and CEO of Humane; Reshma Saujani, CEO, Moms First, and Co-founder, Girls Who Code; Cassie Kozyrkov, CEO, Data Scientific; and Neel Adhya, Chief Digital Officer, BlackRock.

The next conference, SHRM Talent Conference & Expo 2024, will be held in Las Vegas (and virtually), April 14 – 17, 2024. Visit https://conferences.shrm.org/talent-conference for more information. At this time, SHRM is only offering virtual registration for media interested in covering the conference.
