SHRM Executives Join B20 Indonesia Women in Business Action Council

​ALEXANDRIA, Va. — SHRM (the Society for Human Resource Management) President and CEO Johnny C. Taylor, Jr. and Chief of Staff, Head of Government Affairs and Corporate Secretary Emily M. Dickens were named co-chair and deputy co-chair, respectively, of the B20 Indonesia Women in Business Action Council.

B20 is the business voice of the G20, the multilateral platform connecting the world's major developed and emerging economies.

Indonesia holds the presidency of the G20 in 2022 and has committed to convey recommendations and policy actions through which governments can empower the business community to reduce the gender gap in the workplace.

"First, advancing women in business by building inclusive workplaces for all is not just the right thing to do, it's the smart business thing to do," said Taylor. "Full participation by women in the workforce would increase global GDP by over $28 trillion, enough to change entire global economies. The data shows inclusive workplaces truly work for all of us."

SHRM participated in the B20 Inception Meeting on Jan. 28, citing the need to build the digital capability of women in the workforce through skills-based training and the longtime inequity between women and men in the workforce when it comes to caregiving responsibilities. 

"Caregiving while working has never been easy, and these inequities have only been exacerbated by the pandemic," said Taylor. "We must address these issues, as well as make mental health and wellness a priority. The private sector should also take the lead in establishing gender equity reporting and monitoring mechanisms as a new norm."

SHRM research released last fall shows nearly three in five U.S. organizations voluntarily conduct pay equity reviews, identifying potential inequities between employees performing similar work.

With an average of 1,000 delegates from the G20 countries, including top executives from leading multinational corporations, B20 accounts for 2,000 participants representing over 6.5 million businesses.

SHRM will also serve as a member of B20's Future of Work and Education Task Force. B20 Indonesia will officially convey final recommendations to the G20 presidency before the G20 Summit in late 2022.
