Job Summary:
The Hazardous Materials Removal Worker will identify and safely dispose of hazardous wastes.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Identifies and removes hazardous wastes such as asbestos, lead-based paint, oil, fuel, radioactive materials, or contaminated soil.
- Conducts tests on hazardous materials to determine proper cleanup methods.
- Follows safety procedures to ensure cleanup is done properly.
- Prepares hazardous materials for safe and legal transport.
- Cleans equipment that may have been contaminated during removal process.
- Records types of materials removed and methods used to clean up contaminated areas.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Extensive knowledge of hazardous removal procedures and techniques.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to read user manuals for products used to clean up contaminants.
- Ability to follow instructions.
- Ability to use power equipment and hand tools to clean up hazardous materials.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of on-the-job Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) training required.
- Previous experience preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time.
- Physically able to remove or clean up hazardous materials.
- Able to lift up to 35 pounds at a time.
