Job Summary:
The Ergonomics Specialist will assess the work environment, identifying modifications needed to support a safer and more efficient workplace.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Oversees technicians and associates performing support tasks.
- May lead a team of professional and technical staff depending on the size and scope of the assignment and client organization.
- Ensures work meets client and company standards.
- Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Collaborates with client organization to identify and implement ways to minimize workplace hazards.
- Observes, assesses, analyzes, and documents the movements and activities of client organizations employees.
- Creates and implements programs that will assist employees to avoid repetitive stress, cumulative trauma, and other injuries and impairments.
- Collaborates with client organizations supervisors and managers to offer practical suggestions to enhance the safety and productivity of work environments.
- Provides training as needed to client employees regarding proper body positioning, movement standards, and other injury prevention techniques.
- Develops and maintains related records and reports of observations, recommendations, and implementation procedures.
- As requested, delivers research and documentation to insurance underwriters, government agencies, and other stakeholders.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Resourceful and creative problem-solving skills
- Thorough understanding of human behavior and musculoskeletal functions.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to conduct and correctly analyze risk assessments and evaluations.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelors degree in Applied Psychology or comparable program required; Masters degree in Ergonomics or Human Factors Engineering highly preferred.
- Accreditation by the Board of Certification in Professional Ergonomics preferred.
- At least three years of related experience required.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
