Job Summary:
The Chief Chemist will supervise qualitative and quantitative chemical analyses by the chemical laboratory staff of various materials associated with the operation of the process facility.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Supervises chemical analysis processes. Reviews the work assignments of chemists and support staff for optimum staff utilization.
- Plans analytical procedures for use in complex analyses. Reviews special chemical investigations. Writes and/or reviews reports.
- Reviews monthly inventory of chemical supplies and equipment. Checks accuracy of laboratory weights, balances, and volumetric glassware.
- Reviews changes to company chemical analysis manual and approves for distribution.
- May substitute for the Manager of Chemical Engineering in his or her absence and participate in monthly facility staff meetings.
- May represent the company at industry technical meetings and trade shows.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Strong personal communication and leadership skills.
- Experience as a section head in a chemical laboratory desired.
Education and Experience:
- Master's degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, or metallurgical engineering.
- At least eight years' experience in medical laboratory chemistry.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer and/or standing at a lab bench.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
