Identifying High Potential Talent in a Mining company


Client

Client is an integrated mining and resources producer of zinc, lead, silver and cadmium- part of a globally diversified metals and mining company with its headquarters in London, United Kingdom.

Situation/Scope

The client recognized that in achieving its vision- its people are its most important assets. To achieve the same-they had been regularly putting its junior- middle level talent pool through a full day development centre experience before they take on critical leadership roles. The requirement was that SHRM reviews the existing competency framework for comprehensiveness and usage in the assessment centre and take ~ 78 candidates to go through a development centre. The mandate was that candidates needed to be provided with an immersive assessment experience.

SHRM Approach 

  • Understand the client business strategy and context 
  • Review and refine the existing competency framework at the client against SHRM business understanding as well as usability in the assessment process 
  • Finalise the competency framework for assessments at middle manager levels 
  • Launch the assessment psychometric tools for the identified participants Conduct the one day physical assessments and feedback the next day for a batch of ~78 participants 
  • Create feedback reports for participants highlighting the strengths and development areas 
  • Create a group assessment performance report for each role after every 40 assessments completed managers

Distinctive Impact

  • Delivered a distinctly ‘immersive’ assessment center experience for clients 
  • Created clear individual development plans for all participants in the assessment process Identified clear learning needs for all participants 
  • Implemented a clear process to segregate and differentiate talent which could be used as a template by the client
