The Assistant Museum Curator will assist the senior curator in researching and acquiring artifacts, planning exhibits, organizing events, and coordinating storage.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Trains volunteer docents.
- Oversees volunteer docents and schedules hours.
- Maintains records of volunteer hours and services provided.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Assists in researching, collecting, and cataloging artifacts for an exhibit.
- Develops and oversees the exhibition calendar in collaboration with curator.
- Coordinates and schedules visitor services and museum tours.
- Presents lectures concerning exhibits.
- Assists scholars with necessary research.
- Develops and maintains accurate computer records of specific items in museums collections or those on loan to the museum for specific exhibits.
- Assists the curator in preparing and monitoring budget.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Ability to conduct lectures that interest museum visitors.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelors degree in Museum Administration, Fine Arts, Humanities, History, or other areas relating to the museums specialties.
- At least one year of museum experience highly preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
- Must be able to physically prepare exhibits, which may include walking, standing, kneeling, or climbing.
