Job Summary:
The Respiratory Therapy Supervisor will assist the department manager in managing the department and in providing respiratory and pulmonary medicine services.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Assists in recruiting, orienting, training, evaluating, and monitoring on-the-job performance of subordinate staff.
- Makes operational decisions for the department in the absence of the department manager.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Provides respiratory and pulmonary medicine services.
- Provides respiratory therapy treatment programs to physicians and keeps members of the health care team apprised of patients' conditions.
- Maintains adequate inventory of equipment and supplies.
- Evaluates and recommends new respiratory therapy and pulmonary medicine equipment and supplies.
- Identifies, collects, and reports statistical data to reflect the activities of the department and staff.
- Assists with planning and providing staff development programs for department staff and the hospital.
- Assists in formulating policies and procedures for the department.
- Develops work schedules and job assignments for subordinate staff.
- Participates in community health education projects.
- Responds to emergencies as a member of the code team.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Effective supervisory, communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
- Knowledge of mathematics and statistics.
Education and Experience:
- Graduate of an approved school of respiratory therapy, plus an Associates degree in a science field.
- Current registration by the National Board of Respiratory Therapy.
- Two years of experience in respiratory therapy and pulmonary medicine in an acute-care setting.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Prolonged periods of standing, bending and reaching.
- Manual dexterity to operate machines.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
