The Announcer/Newscaster will report the news to the public via radio, television, or similar medium.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Presents news stories to radio or television audience.
- Monitors local, national, and international news sources multiple times daily.
- Verifies information with sources and ensures the accuracy of the news report.
- Writes and edits news scripts when necessary.
- Assists in developing program outline by coordinating with fellow reporters, sportscasters, and weathercasters.
- Reports from the field when necessary based on the nature of the story.
- Interviews guests for radio or television programs.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent written and verbal skills, including editing skills.
- Excellent time management skills and ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to read teleprompter for television or news report for radio.
- Ability to conduct interviews either on television or radio.
- Must have a pleasant voice and appearance.
- Ability to project a sense of trustworthiness.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelors degree in Broadcast Communications, Journalism, English, or related field required.
- Three years of experience in radio or television announcing.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
- Ability to traverse various terrains when reporting from the field.
