SHRM Foundation Tharseō Awards Announces Its 2024 Award Winners
The three winners will be honored at the annual event in Washington, D.C. October 17, 2024.
ALEXANDRIA, Va. — The SHRM Foundation announced today the winners of its 4th annual Tharseō Awards. The Tharseō [THAR-SEH'- ō] Awards is the SHRM Foundation’s global awards program that honors and recognizes a CEO, a CHRO, and a Senior Policy Transformer who are truly transforming the world of work and the lives of millions around the globe. Recipients will be honored during a black-tie event at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium in Washington, D.C., on Oct. 17, 2024.
This year, the Tharseō Awards will celebrate the visionaries, innovators, and change agents who are actively finding new ways to prepare workplaces for a better future.
“Recognizing and celebrating these exemplary leaders is essential as they set the benchmark for what courageous, confident, and bold leadership looks like in today’s evolving, dynamic workforce,” said Wendi Safstrom, President of the SHRM Foundation. “Their contributions not only transform their own organizations, but they also create ripple effects that elevate the entire world of work.”
The 2024 award recipients are:
CEO of the Year: Horacio Rozanski, Chairman, CEO, and President of Booz Allen Hamilton
In his more than 30-year Booz Allen career, Horacio Rozanski has played a vital role in the company’s major strategic initiatives, investment strategy, and workforce culture, leading Booz Allen’s transformation from a legacy consulting firm to the premier technology creator and integrator for the U.S. federal government. For more than a century, Booz Allen has been empowering people to change the world, and the company’s values—passionate service, ferocious integrity, unflinching courage, champion’s heart, and collective ingenuity—remain at the core of its success today. Now, as the company celebrates the 110th anniversary of its founding, Rozanski is driving the company’s next era with a focus on speed, innovation, and collaboration. His strategic vision and values-driven leadership has fueled the company’s growth momentum, operational resilience, and ability to attract and retain talent in a highly competitive environment. Outside of Booz Allen, Rozanski is chairman of the board for Children's National Hospital and a member of the board of directors at Marriott International, Inc., CARE USA, and the Economic Club of Washington, DC.
Ram Charan HR Innovation Award: Kathleen Hogan, Executive Vice President & CHRO of Microsoft
As Executive Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer, Kathleen Hogan focuses on making Microsoft an exceptional place for employees to work and ensures that the company is creating a culture that attracts and inspires the world’s most passionate talent. Hogan previously served as corporate vice president of Microsoft Services, a team dedicated to helping businesses and consumers maximize the value of their investment in
Microsoft technologies. In 2021, Hogan was named “HR Executive of the Year” by Human Resource Executive magazine for her leadership and people strategy throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. She sits on the board of the National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT) as well as the SHRM (Society for Human Resource Management) Executive Council. Hogan is also involved in the Seattle community and is a board member of the Alaska Air Group. As a breast cancer survivor and former board member of the Puget Sound affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Hogan lends her personal and business perspective to that board of directors.
Policy Transformer of the Year: Gov. Asa Hutchinson (R-AR)
Governor Asa Hutchinson is a former Republican candidate for President of the United States. He served as the 46th Governor of the State of Arkansas and in his last election, he was re-elected with 65 percent of the vote, having received more votes than any other Republican candidate for governor in the State’s history. As part of the economic development emphasis, Gov. Hutchinson set a priority for workforce training by increasing access to state-of-the-art workforce centers throughout the state and funding pilot projects to match skilled workers with employers through web-based portals. The Governor’s career in public service began when President Ronald Reagan appointed him as the youngest U.S. Attorney in the nation for the Western District of Arkansas. In 1996, he won the first of three consecutive terms in the U.S. House of Representatives. During his third term in Congress, President George W. Bush appointed Governor Hutchinson to serve as Administrator of the Drug Enforcement Administration and later as the nation’s first Undersecretary of Homeland Security for Border Protection.
Winners of these prestigious awards are selected based on the JUST Capital annual rankings of “America’s Most Just Companies” and the effectiveness individuals are having on innovative people and business practices to the greatest degree in the workplace. Criteria for the awards included innovation, implementation, and overall impact on both the company and global workforce.
The awards event brings together 300+ business leaders, philanthropists, policymakers, and nationally recognized organizations to recognize and applaud three people who exemplify this courageous spirit. This event is black tie, invite-only.
