Microsoft Responsibilities – Katy is spearheading a new team, bringing together HR Strategy, Analytics and Workforce Planning, as well as Manager Excellence, Organization Development, Communications, and the Future of Work. This team will work together to adapt our HR strategies and ways of working in this rapidly changing era of AI, leveraging data to accelerate HR's evolution and business impact. By integrating key areas and harnessing the power of HRBI for data-driven decisions and proactive strategies, we will be better equipped to anticipate and achieve the full promise of GenAI, as well as navigate future trends and the dynamic business landscape.
Pre-Microsoft Work Experience – Katy most recently served as Chief People Officer at McKinsey & Company, where she oversaw all global people functions. Beyond her HR work, Katy led McKinsey’s Global Operations practice for three years, led the Mid-Atlantic office, and spent 25 years assisting McKinsey’s clients in redesigning their processes and accelerating their business strategies amidst workforce transformations and the adoption of digital technologies. As part of the McKinsey Global Institute, an economic think tank, Katy contributed research on the Future of Work and the future of HR.
Education – Earned a bachelor’s degree in economics and government from Oberlin College and a PhD in Business Economics from Harvard University. Her doctoral work included labor relations and the link between production system design and workforce practices.
