Job Summary:
The Funeral Attendant will provide support and assistance to funeral staff and clientele, performing a variety of tasks required to deliver respectful, professional, and thoughtful funeral services.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Courteously greets all visitors.
- Provides advice, comfort, and other moral support to families and friends of deceased.
- Provides guidance to families and friends of the deceased regarding ways to make charitable donations in honor of their loved ones.
- Transports deceased body to the funeral home from hospitals, homes, or other locations.
- Obtains burial permits for the families and registers deaths with appropriate agencies.
- Directs and leads mourners to and from rooms or chapels where services, visitations, and wakes are being held.
- Assists mourners as they enter and exit limousines, funeral vehicles, or other forms of transportation.
- Oversees processions and assists with cemetery parking as needed.
- Acts as pallbearer when necessary.
- Closes casket at predetermined time during the service.
- Assists with cremations and with the processing and packaging of cremated remains as necessary.
- Delivers and places floral arrangements with the family of the deceased.
- Assists the funeral director in preparing administrative documents and ensuring reports are created, maintained, and filed as directed.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Keen social awareness and integrity.
- Excellent understanding of customer service.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Detail-oriented, particularly with documents and arrangements.
- Ability to neatly arrange flowers at the funeral home and burial site.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Valid drivers license, including any special endorsement that may be necessary to operate vehicles used to transport caskets.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of standing may be required.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
