Job Summary:
The Music Publisher will assist musical artists and songwriters by marketing and promoting songs in a variety of financial contexts.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Works with artists to help them achieve market recognition and financial backing.
- Creates and maintains network of industry contacts to aid in distributing music to potential markets and customers.
- Advises artists and songwriters in the area of copyright law.
- Helps artists and songwriters gain the attention of record labels to publish and record their musical compositions.
- Reviews demos of new music to identify new songwriters and performers with marketing potential.
- Negotiates contracts with artists and songwriters to publish songs and secures rights to future works.
- Performs other related materials as needed.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Extensive knowledge of copyright law.
- Extensive knowledge of music industry and distribution of musical products.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to negotiate recording and publishing contracts.
- Excellent marketing and networking skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelors degree in Music Business, Business Management, or related field preferred.
- Two to three years of related experience preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time.
