Job Summary:
The Athletic Coach will instruct groups or individual players in the fundamentals of sports or a specific sport.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Educates individuals, groups, or teams on the rules, strategies, and techniques for a sport or sports.
- Plans, organizes, and leads practice sessions.
- Trains, encourages, and motivates athletes to prepare them for games and competitive events.
- Teaches safety rules and regulations and ensures they are enforced.
- Develops physical conditioning programs that equip athletes to meet their potential.
- Evaluates team members to determine fitness levels and potential; assigns positions or roles to athletes based on strengths and weaknesses.
- Ensures athletes are using equipment properly and safely.
- Identifies the strengths and weaknesses of players and modifies coaching strategies accordingly.
- Remains current on changes in rules, coaching philosophies and techniques, and technology relevant to particular sport or sports.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent leadership and motivational skills.
- Extensive knowledge of the assigned sport.
- Ability to work with student athletes.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelors degree in Physical Education or related field required.
- Two years of experience as an athletic coach preferred.
- Valid teachers certification required.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to traverse various athletic grounds and facilities.
- Prolonged periods of standing or walking.
- Must be able to lift 25 pounds at a time.
