Stomping Out Pettiness in the Workplace Is Easier Than You Think New Book by SHRM Expert

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – June 4, 2019 — A new book published by SHRM — Society for Human Resource Management explores in depth the everyday annoyances and exasperations of pettiness and shows readers how to spot and resolve all manner of bad behaviors in the workplace. 

Written by SHRM Chief Knowledge Officer Alexander Alonso, Ph.D., SHRM-SCP, The Price of Pettiness: Bad Behavior in the Workplace and How to Stomp It Out will be released at the SHRM 2019 Annual Conference & Exposition on June 23 in Las Vegas.

Supported by the 2019 SHRM Pettiness in the Workplace survey, chapters feature the scientific study and definition of various degrees of petty behavior, from trivial to significant—and beyond to the categorically criminal.

"Dr. Alonso gives us the head start needed to staunch the culture erosion workplace pettiness engenders and inspires us to work together to stomp it out for good," writes SHRM President and Chief Executive Officer Johnny C. Taylor, Jr., SHRM-SCP, in the book's foreword.

A member of the executive team at SHRM, the expert on all things work, Alonso leads operations for SHRM certification, SHRM research, the SHRM Competency Model and the SHRM HR Knowledge Advisor service. Alonso has published works in Industrial and Organizational Psychology: Perspectives on Science and Practice, the International Journal of Selection and Assessment, People and Strategy and has co-authored Defining HR Success: A Guide to the SHRM Competency Model in Practice.
