California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed Senate Bill 988, the Freelance Worker Protection Act (FWPA), into law on Sept. 28, 2024. The act imposes requirements on individuals and companies that hire freelance workers for specified “professional services.”
Starting on January 1, 2025, California's Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA) will restrict employers from requiring a driver’s license in job applications unless driving is a critical job function that cannot be reasonably performed through other means.
