2014 Economic Conditions: Global Competition and Hiring Strategies

This presentation is part 3 of 3 in a series of SHRM survey findings about the state of jobs and skills in the U.S. Data are presented by industry, and comparisons are made by organization staff size and sector when significant differences were found.

Social media (54%) was the most common tool HR professionals used to deal with recruiting challenges, followed by collaborating with educational institutions (48%) and expanding advertising efforts (41%). In terms of the effectiveness of these recruiting strategies, respondents said using social media (51%), expanding advertising efforts (51%), using a recruitment agency (51%), and training existing employees to take on the hard-to-fill positions (49%) were the most successful.
