SHRM’s 2014 Workplace Flexibility Survey collected comprehensive information on flexible work arrangements (FWAs). The results are presented in a two-part series; the first part provides an overview of FWAs, including the prevalence, types and the use of FWAs. This research found that among the responding organizations that reported offering each type of FWA, at least four-fifths indicated that 13 out of 17 FWAs were somewhat/very successful (80%-92%). Two-fifths (39%) of responding organizations indicated their organization offered employees the option to telecommute; of these organizations, one-quarter (26%) reported the productivity of employees who previously worked 100% onsite had increased, and one-third (32%) reported absenteeism rates had decreased.
