The National Academy of Human Resources (NAHR), founded in 1992, recognizes individuals of distinction in human resources for exceptional professional achievement as "Fellows of the NAHR" and occasionally recognizes human resource related groups as "Honored Institutions/Organizations". NAHR recognized the SHRM Foundation as an honored organization in 2014. The NAHR Foundation was formed to allow the Academy to further professionalism in the field at large.

Larry Burk.jpg Larry Burk Memorial Undergraduate Scholarship

​Larry Burk, a past SHRM employee and volunteer, passed away on July 10, 2015.  Larry was a dedicated HR professional who was committed to the profession and fellow HR professionals. As a volunteer for SHRM, Larry served as the Dallas HR Chapter President, Texas State Council Director, Area IV Vice-President, and served on the National SHRM Board of Directors. Larry retired from the HR department of the Boy Scouts of America after 23 years, and then served SHRM full time as a Regional Director.

Lisa Burke.jpg​Lisa Burke Undergraduate Scholarship

Dr. Lisa Burke served as a SHRM student chapter advisor while associate professor at Louisiana State University at Shreveport. This award was created in her honor in 2001 when one of her former students donated money for the scholarship. The donor has chosen to remain anonymous. Today, Lisa Burke-Smalley, Ph.D., SPHR, is a full professor at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
Paula Harvey.png​Paula Harvey Undergraduate Scholarship

Paula H. Harvey, MBA, SHRM-SCP, SPHR, GPHR believes in education. After graduating from UT-Austin, she started her HR career as a recruiter and later moved into a generalist role. Paula first became involved with SHRM while pursuing her MBA at UNC Charlotte. She served as her chapter's university liaison for seven years and later spent ten+ years as student chapter advisor. Paula has been a dedicated SHRM volunteer in both North Carolina and Texas, holding various roles inclusing MAC representative, state director and chapter president--for two different chapters. She has been honored with numerous awards for her service including NCSHRM HR Professional of the Year, NCSHRM HR Hall of Fame, NCSHRM Humanitarian of the Year (for her work in mentoring students), and the President's Certificate of Merit (for saving a life) from the American Red Cross. Paula is currently VP of HR for Schulte Building Systems, Inc. in Hockley, TX and an adjuct instructor at Rice University's Institute for Human Resource Education. This scholarship was created to honor Paula's outstanding volunteer service and her dedication to mentoring and encouraging HR students.

Junior Achievement USA inspires and prepares young people to succeed in a global economy, and to help meet this purpose, Junior Achievement USA is collaborating with SHRM and the SHRM Foundation. Through this collaboration, human resources professionals, educators and Junior Achievement associates will engage in initiatives that better prepare young people to be successful adults in the ever-evolving world of work.
Libby Sartain.jpg Libby Sartain Undergraduate Scholarship

Libby Sartain, SHRM-SCP, SPHR, CCP started her relationship with SHRM (then ASPA) as an undergraduate at Southern Methodist University, where she became an officer with the student chapter. In graduate school at the University of North Texas she helped revitalize a dormant chapter and became an officer there as well. Throughout her 30+ year career in human resources--which included heading up HR at both Southwest Airlines and Yahoo!--she has been active with SHRM. Libby has served as the president of the Dallas SHRM Chapter, and the Chair of the SHRM Board of Directors in 2001. She currently serves on the SHRM Foundation Board. This award celebrates Libby's many years of volunteer service to SHRM and her ongoing support for the next generation of HR professionals.

Jim Schultz retired in 2014 following a 30-year career in human resources with Chevron Corporation. Jim and his family value volunteering and giving back to your professional community, which Jim exemplified during his service as member of the SHRM Foundation's Board of Directors and chair of the board in 2013-2014. With Jim's retirement he started this scholarship to support students with the hopes that its recipient will likewise give back to this vocation that provides so much to organizations, employees and the HR professionals themselves.

The Pennsylvania State Council of SHRM (PASHRM) supports businesses and HR professionals in Pennsylvania by providing information on national, state and local events, legislation and initiatives that assist with day-to-day HR activities, hosting annual conferences and supporting local SHRM chapters. PASHRM is a strong supporter of SHRM certification and the purpose of these scholarships is to give back to our PA members by offering our members the opportunity to become certified and to advance the HR profession and serve the HR professional.

Sara Rynes is the John Murray Professor of Management and Organizations at the University of Iowa. She received her Ph.D. in Industrial Relations at the University of Wisconsin with an emphasis in Human Resources. In 2011 she received the Michael Losey Human Resource Management Research Award from SHRM and the SHRM Foundation. She is a Fellow of the Academy of Management, the American Psychological Association, and the Management Education Research Institute. She has been a member of the SHRM Foundation Board since 2013. This scholarship is intended to help worthy recipients achieve certification of their HR competencies so they can improve their organizations, advance their careers, and give back to the HR profession.
