Courtney Peterson is Vice President, Chief Diversity Officer and Chief Human Resources Officer at Edison Electric Institute (EEI), the premier trade association that represents all U.S. investor-owned electric companies, including most electric utilities in the Fortune 500.
Courtney is responsible for leading EEI’s internal human resources strategy and operations, driving external engagement with member company chief human resources officers, directing industry diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, overseeing EEI’s business diversity program, employment testing program and leading internal EEI facility operations.
A seasoned executive with 20+ years of human resources experience, Courtney is also a certified mediator, facilitator, leadership/executive coach and a trained diversity practitioner. Prior to EEI, Courtney served as the Chief Human Resources and Culture Officer at Sidwell Friends in Washington DC for nearly a dozen years, and she has previously served in HR leadership roles with the Fannie Mae Foundation and American Diabetes Association.
Courtney holds an Executive Certificate in Leadership Coaching from Georgetown University, a bachelor’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh and she possesses a master’s degree in Adult Education and Leadership from Robert Morris University. Courtney is an adjunct professor in the master’s degree program in Human Resources Management at Georgetown University. She is also a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, is a founding member of CHIEF DC and is a Professional Certified Coach (PCC) through the International Coaching Federation.
