Few things sabotage a healthy employer-employee relationship as effectively as unmet expectations. There’s an inherent reluctance to define and express expectations on both sides: Employers don’t want to overpromise, employees don’t want to seem ungrateful and both sides may still be exploring their goals for the future. But career development requires more than managing expectations. When you have open conversations with your employees, you can forge lasting agreements and align employee career paths with your organization’s needs.

In this webcast, Cassie Whitlock of BambooHR and Jeff Smith of 15Five will match career development principles with performance management practices that help provide your employees with the personal growth they need from their workplace — personal growth that unlocks their potential and helps keep them with your organization.

Following this program, you'll come away with insight on:

  • How managers can help employees identify and refine their career development goals through self-discovery conversations
  • Methods for your organization to perform a gap analysis and find where talent is needed in the future
  • The difference between “broad shoulders” and “deep expertise” employee progression tracks — and why one track doesn’t fit every employee
  • How programs and practices combine to build a career development culture

Learn about our speaker About the Presenters: Cassie Whitlock is the director of HR at BambooHR. She started her career in the accounting world but working with small and medium sized companies, the HR function was always handed to her. She enjoys her work most when she can take her talents in data, processes, and human psychology to make someone's day better. Whitlock believes that strategy is accomplished in the details of how you manage the daily tactical items. She views her team as part of her family and enjoys working hard with them, while they all learn, grow, and execute on business-critical initiatives.

Jeff Smith is the director of 15Five's Best-Self Academy and a cognitive psychologist. His mission entails helping people, teams and organizations become their best selves. Smith has an eclectic background, including leadership roles in learning and development, strengths-based assessments, product management, design, UX and innovation. He loves to translate qualitative research into what’s next.
