Changing Employee Skills and Education Requirements—Education and Career Advancement


What additional education and training do employees need to advance in their career? In approximately one-third to one-half of organizations, additional education is not needed to advance across all levels. At 51% of responding organizations, attaining a bachelor’s degree or above is necessary for employees who want to advance from an individual contributor/professional or management position. Organizations cited job-specific training as the most important attribute for advancing from low-skilled labor (56%), skilled labor (61%) and administrative/secretarial (69%) positions, whereas other professional development was the most essential training at the salaried individual/contributor professional (76%), management (81%) and executive (63%) levels.
