US Military HR Inclusion Plan
2011 Pinnacle Award Winner

There are 65,000 military personnel (active and reserve components) on 18 installations in Washington State. Military Human Resources Managers provide HR support for military organizations at all levels. These HR practitioners include both military personnel and civilian government employees who augment them by either providing HR support to the military or to civilian elements of the Department of Defense. The Army alone has over 21,000 military personnel who perform HR Functions. These soldiers spend as little as a 2 to 4 year enlistment and as much as an entire 20 to 35 year career. Most have never heard of SHRM. The South Puget Sound Chapter is trying to change that, starting locally. By reaching out and including these military HR practitioners in our chapter, we can share best practices while supporting our veteran community, starting with those in our own profession; thereby increasing their readiness for the civilian workforce, encouraging HRCI certification, offering them networking opportunities and increasing the diversity of both our local chapter membership and our local workforce.
