Health Care Reform

Senate Begins Floor Debate on Health Care Reform     
This week, the U.S. Senate began a historic debate on comprehensive legislation to overhaul our nation’s health care system.  Prior to the Senate’s Thanksgiving holiday recess, Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) introduced a merged Senate bill that combined some provisions from the Senate Finance Committee’s bill, some provisions from the Senate Education and Labor Committee bill, and some new provisions that were not in either bill.  [ More ]

SHRM Volunteer Leaders Advance the Profession in Washington   
In conjunction with last month’s 2009 Leadership Conference, nearly 200 SHRM members traveled to Capitol Hill on Thursday, November 19 to meet with their senators and representatives.  These meetings were designed to discuss two key SHRM issues: Workplace Flexibility and Health Care Reform.  [ More ]

SHRM/DOL Extend Disability Alliance Agreement for Two More Years
On November 20, during SHRM’s Leadership Conference, SHRM President & CEO Lon O’Neil and Kathy Martinez, Assistant Secretary for the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP), formally extended an alliance agreement for two years to work together to improve opportunities for people with disabilities.  [ More ]

SHRM Aids the Department of Labor with its Launch of the  “Job Seekers Challenge.”
To coincide with President Obama’s “Forum on Jobs and Economic Growth,” the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) launched its Jobs for America’s Job Seekers Challenge website on November 30, 2009.  The on-line competition uses an Internet platform designed by IdeaScale that will allow toolmakers and developers to present free on-line job tools to workforce development experts and job-seekers.  [ More ]
