November brought to a close an extremely active fall for SHRM advocacy efforts with three additional Day Inside the Beltway events.  A total of 11 SHRM member groups have visited Washington, DC in 2009 to make their voices heard.

Members from West Virginia, Virginia and Pennsylvania recently traveled to that nation’s capital to meet with their elected officials in Congress, sharing their views on health care and workplace flexibility.

Throughout this year, HR professionals from across the country have created a strong presence on Capitol Hill.  Coupled with the SHRM’s HR Advocacy Day (conducted during the March Employment Law and Legislative Conference) and SHRM’s Leadership Hill Day (scheduled for November 19), nearly 500 HR professionals have held meetings on Capitol Hill this year.

While Congress remains mired in debate on HR issues such as health care reform and paid sick leave legislation, 2010 looks as though it will be just as active on workplace issues.

Don’t miss out on having your voice be heard.  If your Chapter or State Council is interested in organizing a trip to meet with Members of Congress, please e-mail Recardo Gibson, SHRM’s Member Advocacy Specialist.
