2012 Elections

   10/26/2012

While the results of the 2012 elections aren't known, it is clear the outcome will have a significant impact on workplace issues. Also important, Congress will soon begin its "lame duck" session that could forestall the fiscal cliff facing the country. Immediately after the election, SHRM will make a podcast and webcast available to members, offering analysis of the election results and the Congressional agenda for the rest of 2012.

We will also provide to all members an on-line assessment of the 2012 elections, and what they might mean for the HR public policy agenda in Washington and the states in 2013.

On Nov. 7, SHRM will post a 15-minute podcast featuring Michael Layman and Robert Carragher of SHRM's Government Affairs department, discussing national and state election results. The program will be available from SHRM's podcast page, www.shrm.org/podcast, as well as in iTunes, https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/shrm-presents-podcast-series/id566679642

On Nov. 8 – two days after the election – Michael P. Aitken, SHRM vice president of Government Affairs, will lead a 90-minute webcast on what the election results mean for the workplace, what to expect in the lame duck Congress and what is on the horizon in the first 100 days and beyond of a new Obama or Romney administration. The program will begin at 4 p.m. ET/1 p.m. PT. Mr. Aitken will also provide analysis on the impact on employers of sequestration -- the so-called fiscal cliff that could result in a calamitous combination of tax hikes and massive cuts in government spending. There is a discount for SHRM members attending this program. Details are available at http://bit.ly/QIFJdd.
