Immigration reform measures currently being debated by Congress represent what could become the largest overhaul of the U.S. immigration system in a generation. The impact of these changes would directly affect how employers access global talent, including transforming the process for obtaining H-1B visas or green cards, facilitating intra-company transfers, and verifying the eligibility of employees to legally work in the United States.

As an HR professional, now is the time for you and your organization to learn about these potential changes to the employment-based immigration system, plan for what reform could mean for your organization’s global mobility programs and employment verification compliance, and join in the debate.

SHRM and its strategic affiliate, the American Council on International Personnel (ACIP), invite you to participate in ACIP’s 2013 Symposium — Your GPS for U.S. Immigration and Global Mobility — June 3-6 at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Arlington, Va. ACIP’s Symposium brings together industry experts, government officials, international leaders and your peers for panels, discussions and networking opportunities that will provide you the information, techniques and tools you need to best facilitate global talent mobility. During the Symposium, you can:

  • Learn the core components and requirements of U.S. employment-based immigration (with separate training tracks for corporate employers and non-profits/universities) during the Immigration Essentials pre-conference workshop.
  • Understand the specifics of the immigration reform measures currently under consideration by Congress and how they could impact you and your employer if enacted into law. You can also take part in the immigration reform debate by letting your voice be heard as part of ACIP’s Congressional Advocacy Day.
  • Hear directly from USCIS Director Alejandro Mayorkas (pictured above) and other officials representing the federal agencies involved in the U.S. immigration process, including the departments of Homeland Security, Labor and State.
  • Engage in professional development opportunities (with the potential for recertification credits) and network with your industry peers and leading immigration experts. ACIP’s 2013 Symposium has been approved for 18.75 (Specified-International) recertification credit hours toward PHR, SPHR and GPHR recertification through the HR Certification Institute.

Whether you are new to navigating immigration issues or an experienced veteran, our Symposium will have something for you. Discounted rates are available for SHRM members, and one-day registration options are available for those that cannot attend the full Symposium. Space is limited at this year’s Symposium, so reserve your spot by registering today!
