Gearing Up for Significant NLRB Regulatory Action

The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) issued a proposed rule on February 6, 2014, that would significantly change the NLRB’s election rules and procedures for union recognition.  The proposed rules are virtually identical to those initially proposed by the board in 2011 and subsequently challenged in court. Council for Global Immigration and SHRM Submit Comments on myE-Verify
On March 20, 2014, the Council for Global Immigration (the Council) and SHRM jointly submitted comment on myE-Verify, a portal that will allow E-Verify users to track case status and lock their Social Security numbers. [ More

SHRM’s Advocacy Team (A-Team) Needs You! 
2014 is an election year for the U.S. Congress. Elections for the Senate and House of Representatives will be held on November 4. In the Senate, 33 of the 100 seats are being contested, and winners will serve six-year terms from January 3, 2015, to January 3, 2021. In the House of Representatives, elections will be held for all 435 seats, and winners will serve two-year terms from January 3, 2015, to January 3, 2017. [ More ]

Hastings and Gabhart Join SHRM Government Affairs Staff
This month, SHRM added two new staff to its Government Affairs Team lineup.  Kelly Hastings joined SHRM in early March as a Senior Government Relations Advisor handling labor, employment, civil rights and workforce development issues before Congress, while Jason Gabhart joined the team in mid-March as SHRM’s California State Government Relations Advisor based in Sacramento, Calif. [ More ]
