Last month, SHRM’s Government Affairs Team added a new, seasoned professional to its staff to enhance the Society’s rapidly growing Advocacy Team (A-Team) initiative.

Meredith Nethercutt joined the staff at the end of February as SHRM’s senior associate for member advocacy. Working closely with the A-Team initiative, Meredith will concentrate her efforts on continuing to grow member engagement and educating A-Team participants on effective advocacy techniques. In addition, she will provide training and guidance to HR advocates on how to effectively communicate with lawmakers regarding workplace policies. A major component of the Society’s advocacy efforts in Washington, the A-Team advances the HR perspective on workplace issues by leveraging the reach and knowledge of SHRM members through grassroots advocacy efforts such as in-person meetings with legislators in their district offices while back home.

Prior to joining SHRM, Meredith served as director of public affairs and grassroots advocacy at the National Association of Manufacturers, where she oversaw the complete association advocacy program branding and reorganization, as well as the construction of a strategic association-wide key contact program to leverage relationships between manufacturers and federal lawmakers. Meredith’s previous career experience includes advocacy positions with the International Franchise Association and the National Restaurant Association, where she managed both organizations’ grassroots programs. Meredith started her career in advocacy at Associated Builders and Contractors.

Meredith received a Bachelor of Science degree from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee.
