2014 SHRM Employment Law & Legislative Conference

   3/7/2014

The 2014 SHRM Employment Law & Legislative Conference is just weeks away! At a time when the workplace public policy agenda in Washington is growing, it is critical that HR professionals remain informed about how to stay in compliance with the multitude of laws and regulations governing the workplace – as well as learn about what other legislative and regulatory requirements are in the works.

This week, SHRM confirmed that U.S. Secretary of Labor Tom Perez will address attendees during the closing keynote session on the afternoon of March 18, focusing his remarks on the Department’s priorities for the remainder of the Obama administration. Secretary Perez is expected to touch upon such issues as the need for enhanced worker training; the agency’s enforcement focus for 2014 and beyond; the President’s desire for Congress to enact an increase in the minimum wage; and the problem of long-term unemployment, an issue SHRM, the Department of Labor and the White House are working on jointly.

This year’s conference, scheduled for March 17-19, will be held at the Renaissance Washington, D.C., Hotel—Downtown, conveniently situated within walking distance from Capitol Hill, the White House, renowned museums, cultural attractions and the historic National Mall.
