SHRM Foundation Coordinator Role: Fundraising
People have to be asked to give.

As a SHRM Foundation coordinator, you are responsible for encouraging your chapter or state council and your members to contribute financially to the SHRM Foundation.

You may want to use this language with prospective donors: "As you reflect on the many causes and organizations worthy of your charitable contributions, please consider giving back to your profession through your support of the SHRM Foundation."

Here are some first steps:

  • Fundraising Best Practices:  Start here to get some great ideas on fundraising within your chapter or state council.

  • Leadership Campaign:  Kick-off your fundraising efforts by asking your chapter or state council board members to make a personal donation.  This section includes a step-by-step guide, speaking points and sample letters.
  • Champions Program:  Learn how you can earn recognition from the SHRM Foundation for your efforts.   NOTE: Meeting the eligibility requirements for the Champions Program is also a requirement for the Gold Award and Platinum Award, as explained in the SHRM Affiliate Program for Excellence (SHAPE) planning documents

Additional fundraising opportunities and resources for your State Council:

Important Information:

State fundraising regulations vary by state.  Please consult the National Association of State Charity Officials at www.nasconet.org for guidance.

Raffle Laws Vary By State. The SHRM Foundation can not provide legal advise and does not have a list of specific state regulations.  Information available by clicking here is for informational purposes only.

Help us build the volunteer toolkit by sharing your best practices!  Contact Tiffany Merklinger at 703-535-6316 and let us know what’s working in your chapter or state council.
