SHRM Foundation Contribution

     

Your charitable donation is an investment in the future of the HR profession and supports the important work of the SHRM Foundation -- including scholarships, research grants, and educational resources. All donations made to the SHRM Foundation are tax deductible and the donor will receive a receipt via an acknowledgment letter.

Three ways to donate to the SHRM Foundation:

  1. Donate ONLINE
    All donations made to the SHRM Foundation are made through the SHRM Store to ensure that your donations are secure. You will be asked to login with your SHRM ID which all SHRM members have, or you can create a guest account.
  2. Donate via phone
    The SHRM Foundation staff is happy to take your donation via credit card over the phone. Please call Elissa Soares, Foundation administrator, at 703-535-6020 to make your phone donation.
  3. Donate via mail
    Donations made by check can be mailed along with your completed donation form to our secure lock box at:

Q: Is the SHRM Foundation a nonprofit charity?
A: Yes, the SHRM Foundation is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit charity governed by a volunteer board of directors from the HR profession, including academics, practitioners and representatives from SHRM. Our tax ID number is 34-6610067, and your gift is tax-deductible to the full extent of current law. 

Q: What is the mission and vision of the SHRM Foundation?
A: Mission: The SHRM Foundation advances global human capital knowledge and practice by providing thought leadership and   educational support, and sponsoring, funding and driving the adoption of cutting-edge, actionable, evidence-based research. Vision: The SHRM Foundation is the globally recognized catalyst for shaping human resource thought leadership and research.

Q: How is my donation used to further the mission of the SHRM Foundation?
A: The SHRM Foundation’s work includes:

  • Strategic thought leadership initiative- The SHRM Foundation is conducting a multi-phase program to identify and analyze critical trends likely to impact the workplace in 5-10 years.
  • Innovative academic research grants- The SHRM Foundation is the leading funder of HR research. Since 2007, the SHRM Foundation has awarded more than $4 million in research grants.
  • Scholarship and awards- Annually, more than 100 scholarships are awarded for academic studies and professional certification to professional and student SHRM members, and doctoral students.
  • Educational resources- The SHRM Foundation produces research-based and complimentary products, including case study DVDs, effective practice guidelines, executive briefings and webinars.

Q: How does the SHRM Foundation fund its programs?
A: The SHRM Foundation funds its work through the Annual Campaign and the support of SHRM.

  • The Annual Campaign - the SHRM Foundation’s annual fundraising efforts include donations from individuals, SHRM state councils, SHRM chapters and student chapters, companies, organizations, sponsorship and revenue from fundraising events.
    • In 2013 and 2014, the SHRM Foundation’s Annual Campaign raised more than $1 million.
  • Support from SHRM - as the charity affiliate of SHRM, the SHRM Foundation is grateful for the significant support received from SHRM including: in-kind services and matching gifts for donations received during the Annual Campaign
  • SHRM’s support allows the SHRM Foundation to use every dollar raised to advance our mission through scholarships, educational resources, HR research, and thought leadership.

Q: What is the relationship between the SHRM Foundation and SHRM?
A: The SHRM Foundation is the charity affiliate of SHRM and SHRM is the largest annual supporter of the SHRM Foundation. The SHRM Foundation is a legally separate organization and is governed by its own volunteer board of directors. SHRM’s support allows the SHRM Foundation to use every dollar raised to advance our mission through scholarships, educational resources and thought leadership

Q: Is my donation to the SHRM Foundation tax deductible?
A: Yes, all donations to the SHRM Foundation are tax deductible

Q: How long will it take to process my donation?
A: If you donate via check or credit card mailed to our office, it can take up to three weeks for your donation to be processed.
If you donate online at shrmfoundation.org/donate, your donation is credited automatically and you will receive an receipt emailed to you immediately.

Q: Will I receive a receipt for my donation?
A: Yes

  • If the donation was made online, you will receive an email receipt immediately
  • If the donation was made via mail or over the phone and your donation was for $25 or more, you will receive an acknowledgement letter within three weeks of the SHRM Foundation receiving your donation.

Individual Gift
I am an individual who is a making a donation to the SHRM Foundation. If I am a SHRM chapter/council member, my donation will count towards our Leadership Campaign. All donations made online will receive a receipt via email, and all gifts of more than $25 made by check or over the phone will receive an acknowledgement letter by mail.

State Council or Chapter Gift
I am a representative of a SHRM chapter or state council making a donation from chapter or council funds. This donation will count towards your annual contribution for SHAPE requirements.

Student Chapter Gift
 I am a representative of a SHRM student chapter making a donation from chapter funds. If the gift is being made by a student chapter representative using their personal credit card/check, please indicate that this is a student chapter gift when donating online or using the printable donation form if you are mailing your donation(link here). Please include your student chapter number on the form. All donations made online will receive a receipt via email, and all gifts of more than $25 made by check or over the phone will receive an acknowledgement letter by mail.

Corporate Gift
This is a gift made from a corporation to the SHRM Foundation. To ensure that a corporate donation receives the correct recognition, we request that donations be mailed to us via check or made via credit card over the phone at 703-535-6020.

Q: What credit cards do you accept?
A: MasterCard, Visa, American Express

Q: Are there any credit cards you won't accept?
A: At this time, we do not accept Discover cards and we cannot accept debit cards that are not accompanied by a Visa or Mastercard logo on the card.

Q: Can I donate through worksite giving programs?
A: Many giving programs allow you to choose a charity of your choice. The SHRM Foundation is a proud recipient of gifts made through worksite giving. If we can help connect your worksite giving program, please contact us at shrmfoundation@shrm.org or call 703.535.6020. At this time, the SHRM Foundation does not participate in the Combined Federal Campaign.

Q: Do you process matching gifts?
A: Yes! Matching gifts are a great way to double, and sometimes triple, your donation! Contact your company's charity giving program to learn more about the steps needed. The SHRM Foundation is happy to complete all paperwork.

How to submit a Matching Gift contribution:  

  • Contact your company regarding their matching gift program
  • Complete and submit the matching gift paperwork to the SHRM Foundation at 1800 Duke Street, Alexandria, VA 22314
  • The SHRM Foundation will verify your completed form and return it your company

Your company will than issue a matching gift contribution to the SHRM Foundation
