When Talent Loss Poses the Greatest Risk: Understanding the Effects of Departure Sequencing, Clustering, and Timing on Organizational Performance

Losing top talent poses substantial risk to organizational health and survival. The purpose of this study is to test a process model of employee turnover at the work unit level that directly addresses the sequencing, clustering, and timing of departures, and their effects on work unit operational performance. A partner organization has been identified to supply the relevant data, which will be analyzed using random coefficient modeling. Study results can provide finer-grained metrics that HR practitioners can use to diagnose and mitigate turnover-related risk.
