Leon Rubis is executive editor of HR Magazine and editorial director for the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). He has more than 30 years of journalism and publishing experience, and joined SHRM in 1993 as managing editor of HR News, the Society’s then monthly newspaper. Previously, Rubis managed editorial operations at two Washington, D.C., area newsletter publishers, covering federal programs and investment markets. He also was a reporter and editor for three daily newspapers. Rubis has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of North Carolina.
Nancy M. Davis was appointed editor of HR Magazine in June 2007. Previously, she served as editor in chief of the award-winning Glass and AutoGlass magazines for the National Glass Association in McLean, Va., and managing editor of the award-winning Presstime magazine for the Newspaper Association of America in Arlington, Va. Davis also edited monthly and weekly publications serving federal, state and local government officials and school boards, and has written on diverse topics for national newspapers and magazines. She holds a master’s degree in journalism from the University of Maryland and a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Illinois.
Desda Moss, managing editor, has more than 20 years of writing, editing and publishing experience. Prior to joining SHRM, she was an editor and freelance writer for a number of publications, including newsletters, magazines and online content produced for the Freddie Mac Foundation, the National Society of Black Engineers, the National Education Association, America Online and Congress Daily. For 14 years, Moss was a national reporter for USA Today, covering social issues, Congress and urban affairs. She also has been a guest columnist for USA Today, writing about a variety of topics ranging from parenting to employment discrimination. In 1990, she received a national award for her coverage of the Americans with Disabilities Act. She has been an adviser and mentor to journalism students throughout her career. Moss received her bachelor’s degree in journalism from Northwestern University.
John F. Scorza, associate editor, joined HR Magazine in 2010. He has more than two decades of journalism and publishing experience. Before coming to SHRM, he was an editor at the Thompson Publishing Group, where he wrote and edited articles on pension plans and retirement issues. From 1995 to 2008, he was with CCH in Washington, D.C. He covered Congress, the Supreme Court and federal agencies, reporting on a broad range of business and workplace issues. Before that, he was the deputy legal editor at The National Law Journal in New York. He attended the University of Iowa College of Law and earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Northwestern College in Iowa.
Dori Meinert, senior writer for HR Magazine and HR News, has more than 30 years of journalism experience. Before joining SHRM in October 2010, she was editor of Common Ground magazine, published by the Community Associations Institute. From 1985 to 2007, she was a Washington correspondent for Copley News Service, covering Congress, federal agencies and the Supreme Court. She has a master’s degree from Georgetown University and a bachelor’s degree in journalism and political science from Northern Illinois University.
Bill Leonard, senior writer for HR Magazine and HR News, has written about workplace and human resource management issues since joining the SHRM editorial staff in March 1989. Prior to working with SHRM, Leonard worked as a reporter/editorial assistant at The Charlotte Observer, where he wrote on a wide variety of topics, including feature articles on local business issues. He earned a bachelor’s degree in English literature from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and performed post-graduate work in business administration at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
